Keep your hairstyle going all night long
You’ve spent ages getting ready to go out, you’re in a new dress and your makeup is perfect. You spent ages doing your hair, making sure it’s just right and you know you look a million dollars. But then you walk out the door and you know before you get to where you’re going your hair will be ruined – straightened hair will go frizzy, curls will somehow flatten themselves, it’s as if your style deliberately wants to self-destruct. It doesn’t seem to matter how much effort you put in to styling, you just can’t seem to get it to stay how you want it. Here are some tips for getting the hair you want to last all night long.
Washing: Use shampoo that is right for your hair type. If yours is dry, don’t use a shampoo that’s meant for greasy hair just because it has the nicest smell. The hair types are written on the bottle for a reason, so read them! Don’t use conditioner every time you wash your hair. Thinking that this is a good idea is a common mistake that leaves lots of people with fluffy uncontrollable hair, wondering what they’re doing wrong. Only use conditioner once every few washes – you will be able to tell when your hair needs it – and you will see an immediate change in frizzy hair, especially if you usually wear it curly or wavy.
Drying: If you have curly hair, don’t use a normal hairdryer. Scrunch in a bit of curl-defining mousse and use a diffuser or let it dry naturally. A normal hairdryer will only make your hair big. If your hair is straight, blow-dry it with a round brush and smooth it down using a bit of serum.
Styling: If you want to straighten your hair, it’s really worth investing in GHD straighteners. Yes they cost a bit more but it’s worth it as they are reliable and the effect lasts much longer than many of the cheaper brands. Beware of artificially straightening or curling your hair all the time as it can cause damage and dryness – use your styling tools sparingly and, if you do notice more dry split ends than usual, use a leave-in conditioner or repair product to prevent it going any further. GHD also offer a good range of products specifically designed to protect heat-styled hair.
Finishing: If you’re going for a straight, sleek look and have used GHD straighteners, then a bit of hairspray or wax will hold the style in place - if your hair is not naturally straight be sure not to use too much finishing product as it will likely cause it to go wavy later on. For curly or messy looks, be sure to use a spray that won’t weigh the hair down.
Don’t do your hair at the last minute, make sure it’s done in time that it is fully dry and set in its new style before you go out. Going out with your hair still damp or warm from straightening/styling means it’s unlikely your style will last! Provided you care for your hair and use the right products for your hair type, you’ll find a style that will keep going as long as you do!
